London Morgan, the official London dealership of the country’s last independent family-owned car manufacturer the Morgan Motor Company, has today announced that it will be showcasing the works of Indian painter Suchi Chidambaram in a celebration of urban landscapes.

The exhibition, a collection of oil paintings inspired by Suchi’s memories of London and India, will explore the energy, motion and vibrancy which urban landscapes exude. Suchi’s dramatic and intense paintings focus on the vitality and movement of urban environments. Shifting between the abstract and figurative, Suchi expresses the rhythm and movement of urban landscapes through rapid palette knife or brush marks which animate the tactile surface.

Craftsmanship is at the heart of Suchi’s exhibition at London Morgan, visualised through the setup of Suchi’s traditional oil-painted pieces in the vicinity of hand-crafted Morgan cars. Situated on a cobbled-mews oasis in the heart of South Kensington, London Morgan’s iconic showroom offers an idyllic setting for this fusion of art, heritage and urban effervescence.

Speaking ahead of the exhibition, Suchi said: “When I was looking for a venue for my next exhibition in London, I came across London Morgan’s showroom in Astwood Mews. My first impressions: a showroom exhibiting beautifully hand crafted cars, set within a charming mews. This was not Park Lane, but a friendly mews in Kensington, shared by residents, businesses and London Morgan.

“Then, as I looked at these, I realised that the process behind the making of these effortlessly stylish cars rhymed with what I did at the studio - a very traditional method of hand crafted car building with a contemporary finish, like the use of age old oil paints to create contemporary artwork, as in my case. I also realised another connection - the importance of cities to these cars as to my inspiration for work. London was a again a common theme and the synergy was striking, even compelling”, she added.

This latest initiative culminates a bustling artistic period for London Morgan which, participated in the London Design Festival as a leading partner of the Brompton Design District for the second consecutive year, aims to support the arts and cultural legacy of London and provide international designers with a creative platform to exhibit their work.

Speaking about Suchi’s work, London Morgan’s Dealer Principal, Anthony Barrell, said: “Suchi’s redefinitions of the urban landscape chimes exactly with what we are trying to achieve here at London Morgan. By bringing Morgan’s iconic cars into the city, we are challenging monotonous orthodoxy and encouraging anarchic self-expression through motion, and I feel Suchi’s paintings reflect this motif excellently.”

‘It is a great pleasure for London Morgan to lend our showrooms to exhibit the beautiful work of this talented artist and to celebrate the individualism of her true artistry.

Suchi Chidambaram’s exhibition will be on public display at London Morgan, Astwood Mews, SW7 4DE, from Friday 8th April till Sunday 10th April, and Friday 15th April – Sunday 17th April (11am – 7pm).
