International Student Stuns With Prize Winning 'Wearable Architecture' At Regent's Gradu

A Russian student has won 1st prize in the inaugural Regent’s International Fashion Schools’ Competition for her stunning ‘architecture-inspired’ blue and black dress design.

Kristina Loskarjova, 18, from the Britannica International School in Budapest, Hungary, competed against students from fashion schools in 13 countries across the UK and Europe to win the Award, which was announced at the Regent’s Fashion and Design Show on 19 May 2016.

Students were given a brief to design an outfit based on ‘wearable architecture,’ inspired by building materials such as wood, metal, glass and stone. Competitors were asked to cut and construct a garment that was contemporary, beautiful, cool and, above all, wearable.

Kristina explained:

“At 8am this morning I was taking a statistics test in Budapest. As soon as I finished I got on the plane with my family and we flew straight to London for this evening’s event.

“I heard about the competition through my School and it has taken me around six months to carefully consider my architectural inspiration and then put the design together. I eventually chose to focus on the theme of ‘stairs.’

“I’m amazed to have won this competition and I want to thank Regent’s University London for giving me the opportunity to work on this exciting project.

“I’m still in high school and have one more year to go. Ultimately I want to study fashion at university and work in the industry - the fashion world will hear my name again!”

Runners-up prizes went to Klara Podrazilova and Yingzi Wu, both from the English College in Prague.

Gill Stark, Head of Regent’s School of Fashion & Design said:

“I’m thrilled that the first Regent’s International Fashion Schools’ Competition has proved such a success and given some very talented young people a chance to showcase their design talent.

“It was wonderful to see how the students tackled the challenge and brought such original approaches to the concept of wearable architecture.”

Kristina and Veronique Dothee, Head of Expressive Art at the Britannica International Schoo, both received a collection of fashion books from Bloomsbury, including Stuart McKenzie’s Creative Fashion Illustration.
