Digital Discussions: The Art Conference 2016
This July a 19th Century warehouse situated in the heart of London will play host to a programme of international keynote speakers from the fields of technology, art and culture as part of The Art Conference (TAC). The conference, created by Californian contemporary art curator Tina Zeigler in partnership with The IWSC Group, will fill all three storeys of Bermondsey’s ‘Ugly Duck conference centre. Already managing a portfolio of acclaimed social events, the IWSC Group will be lending its experience to TAC to offer a fresh perspective. The scheduled events will take the form of film screenings, panel discussions, exhibitions and digital art installations, with highlights including installations from the critically acclaimed light artist and poet Robert Montgomery and Jordan Seiler’s Public Ad campaign work, where visitors can test how artwork is transformed when viewed through an iPhone.
“I have always strived to bring people together to connect with arts and help breakdown the boundaries people often find when engaging with art. We’ll achieve that this July with a series of curated, thoughtful and interconnecting presentations by representatives from the wider art world – curators, artists, collectors and art administrators; there’ll be something for everyone,” Zeigler stated. The conference is part of Zeigler’s desire that by pairing the works of local creators alongside internationally recognised veterans will allow the conference to evoke achievable aspirations in attendees, encouraging “dialogue, critical reflection and interaction with arts and technology.”
The conference aims to create valuable digital content and interaction with the art and creative community through digital sharing, using platforms such as Facebook and YouTube to create a digital version of the conference. The diverse range of keynote speakers will include Louis Jensen, the founder of Spaying Bricks a network of emerging and established graffiti, Tinsel Edwards the co-founder of A-side B-side Gallery in Hackney Downs and Guillaume Trotin the director of OPEN WALLS Gallery in Berlin. The keynote speakers will provide insights into each work while giving practical advice to those hoping to follow in their footsteps.
