Revisit the Joy of Playtime with Polyphonic Playground
Polyphonic Playground, a ground-breaking, playable structure commissioned by Fashion Space Gallery will be exhibited as part of the Foundations programme at Here East in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in a nod to London College of Fashion, UAL’s move to Stratford. Inspired by the inherent joy of using playgrounds as a child, Polyphonic Playground is a site specific, interactive sound installation by Studio PSK.
The installation includes a timber framework, built recreating iconic playground pieces to an adult scale. Using custom circuit boards, conductive yarn and tape to create MIDI triggers out of steps, slides and swings the structure will spring to life & evoke the joy of the playground.
Visitors are invited to interact with the structure and see it stage a new performance created by choreographer Eleesha Drennan, commissioned by Studio Wayne McGregor, exploring connections between dance, sound and technology. The Performance entitled Thigmo - the Greek word for touch - will reveal dynamic responses to different kinds of human contact and what impact that has when 'touch' is translated into an auditory, visceral experience through movement and sound.
Polyphonic Playground has previously toured Art Basel in Miami, Milan Design Week & London Design Festival.
Polyphonic Playground is commissioned and curated by Ligaya Salazar with Polona Dolžan, Assistant Curator. Costume design for Thigmo by Kat Thiel.
