Opening this Week: Carpenters Workshop Gallery Paris present Art Light
The Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris announces new exhibition Art Light, featuring works from artists including Nacho Carbonell, Kendell Geers and Frederik Molenschot. Each of the artist’s work is set to be presented as a solo how highlighting the best of their sculptural lighting designs.
Nacho Carbonell juxtaposes industrial materials such as steel and concrete with the natural forms they evoke. Carbonell describes his work as ‘living organisms that come to life and surprise you with their behaviour.’ His ‘Cocoon’ series for the exhibition appears almost to breath and sway in their idle state.
South African artist Kendell Geers uses a diversity of media including installations, sculpture, video and photography. The key work by Geers featured in Art Light is the anthropomorphic White Dahlia VI lamp depicts outstretched arms and shoulders holding two light bulbs in an unnerving pose. Geers draws on his experience of life in Apartheid South Africa pushing the boundaries of societal and political ideologies.
The Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits functional sculptures by emerging international and already established artists. The exhibition starting in September 2016 marks the gallery’s ten year anniversary with a programme of exhibitions and events dedicated to a decade at the forefront of collectable design.
