London’s D-Contemporary gallery announce a showcase of works by Romanian-born Italian conceptual photographer Ioana Vrabie. The exhibition follows the worldwide competition, Art Call, initiated by D-Contemporary in partnership with the Cult House creative group. The competition sought to discover local and international artists who demonstrate distinctive excellence in their artworks.
Art Call received over 250 submissions from around the world, calling on artists to compete for the opportunity to have their best pieces exhibited. The submissions were then whittled down to a shortlist of 12, with Vrabie being the only photography-based artists to be selected.
Vrabie uses traditional photographic processes and an analogue camera, never processing her images in Photoshop, as she doesn’t feel the need to retouch reality. Jackson Pollock once said that ‘every good painter paints what he sees’ Vrabie photographs what she sees. Her work uses multiple exposure techniques to manipulate time and memory by combining two or more visually incongruent images to depict what Vrabie calls New Reality. The exhibition will display Vrabie’s visually haunting images to inspire and captivate viewers.
