‘The display manager has to paint a picture for the public. (Her) canvas is space, (her) pigments merchandise and decoration, (her) brushes light, and shadow.’ - Frederick Kiesler
Opening to the public tomorrow London’s Kate Macgarry gallery presents a group show from Celine Condoerlli, Laura Gannon, Donna Huddleston, Goshka Macuga, Corin Sworn and Patricia Treib. The exhibition, Show Window, features a selection of dynamic artists responding to a variety of themes using a range of mixed media.
The work of Celine Condoerlli is often drawn from the context in which it is displayed, ‘I think of space as my primary material, the first thing I work with’ Condoerlli stated. For this exhibition she presents a wall painting and sculpture that utilises space to emphasise the artificial duality of image and environment.
Laura Gannon also uses space as a central factor within her work, with each of her paintings and sculptures conceived as an exploration between the two mediums and each is completed when viewed alongside their architectural surroundings. Donna Huddleston’s artworks reference personal memories in compositions characterised by shallow perspectives, surreal landscapes and soft, ethereal tones.
Show Window presents a collection of intriguing pieces from a group of artists utilising the gallery space as part of their craft. The exhibition as a whole focusses on the idea of the artificial duality of image and environment, exploring how artworks interact within an architectural space.
