Former After Nyne Writer's Award-Nominated Novel Out Now
Daniel Gothard, a former arts correspondent for After Nyne has seen his latest novel 'Reunited' hit stores amidst a flurry of praise.
'Reunited', Gothard's second novel for independent publisher Urbane Publications, explores the central premise explored by Thomas Wolfe in "You Can't Go Home Again".
Gothard explains 'The book is set in the 1992 and 2012 and separates the central character, Ben Tallis - a journalist, by 20 years - from 16 to 36. He is told to attend a school reunion by his editor and uses the potentially terrifying opportunity to look up his old friends - one of whom, Catrina, he was madly in love with. He is also dealing with adult relationship issues now - his fiancée, Kate, is struggling to deal with his ever-changing moods. The story is told by the 16 year old Ben through a journal he keeps as a catharsis in the wake of his father's death, and from the article work of the 36 year old Ben - hoping to lay ghosts to rest."
The novel was recently nominated for a RNA Romantic Comedy Of The Year award, which sits alongside Gothard's previous nomination for his novel 'Simon Says' and his nomination for The People's Book Prize in 2015 for his novel Friendship & Afterwards.
Daniel Gothard lives in Oxford with his wife and three children. He has a CertHE and MA in creative writing. He has previously had three novels published and appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies in the UK and abroad.
High praise for his work comes from journalist and novelist Guy Mankowski, who says of Gothard
'(Gothard) is a sharp-eyed chronicler of the modern world and his second novel sees him take this talent to a new level. He deftly describes people as overwhelmed curators of their own ambitions, competing, loving and bickering with one another amidst the shifting scenery of postmodern life. Trying to make sense of their past and their identity in a world that treats both as a Pick 'N' Mix.'
Daniel is currently working on a new short story - commissioned by The Oxford Times, which will appear in their February 2017 colour supplement - about teenage love and amateur theatre life.
'Reunited' is available from good bookshops, Amazon and the Urbane Publications website.
